I really shouldn't admit this....

... but I am pretty darn excited that American Idol has started up again. Parts of me are ashamed of this, and hate being captured in this crazy pop culture phenomenon. Then there are the parts of me that are totally thrilled to watch every painful audition, cheer on every story that exemplifies the American Dream, and hold my breath as I await the weekly vote announcements.

(By the way - can you tell I'm feeling better??)

Anywho, I can't believe that I spent two hours of my life watching the premiere last night, and I know that I can't get those two hours back, but - I loved it.

Perhaps I should start a club of people who are too old to audition, but know that they would TOTALLY win if given the opportunity. Anyone want to join me?

I am nervous, though, that once I go back to work, I won't have time to actually watch American Idol, so I shouldn't get too into it. But, maybe it is finally time to get that DVR. My sister has been pressuring me to get one - will American Idol be the show to push me into getting one??? Oy.

What do you think - should I get the DVR? If you have one, what do you record?

Oh, Marci. You've earned at least a DVR, and when you get back to work you're going to need and deserve some recorded brain candy. Why not? If I had a DVR I would record "House" so I wouldn't have to stay up until midnight on Fridays, which wastes me for most of Saturday. Why don't I buy one? Simple: large family doesn't bode well for ever being able to find or be in charge of the remote :-) I'll live vicariously through you!

I've been meaning to get DVR...but I'm still taping "Ugly Betty" on VHS :-)

I'm SO with you with watching "American Idol." That football player named Temptress just broke my heart. Mainly because not only could she not sing, but she didn't even know the proper name of the song. Since when does "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" become "And I Ain't Going Nowhere?"

Marci, you absolutely deserve a DVR. I tape everything (see comment on your previous post) possible, plus a bunch of kids' stuff so that the rugrats are always happy. Having a DVR is the perfect way to start a TV addiction, though, so prepared to explain how you know everything about 20 different shows.

i LOVE my tivo. i tivo everything. and right now i too am watching american idol. it started as a secret obsession but i've hooked my husband, my babysitters, everyone. love it.

get a dvr. you won't regret it!!!!! perfect for the rabbi who's never home to catch the shows and doesn't have the wherewithal to remember to record them on the ol' vcr. plus i record things like the first hour of the today show every day and oprah and jon stewart -- it's practical rabbinics -- if someone wants to talk to me about those and i missed i can go home and watch it later! hey, it's a business expense then!!!!

You absolutely need a DVR. We've found that we don't watch more TV because of it--we just watch stuff we actually like instead of whatever happens to be on.

Putting myself out there, we record Project Runway, Real Housewives of Orange County (darn Bravo!), America's Next Top Model, Rick & Steve (Logo), Oprah, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and Brothers & Sisters (though I haven't watched that one in ages). If it wasn't for DVR, we couldn't record Project Runway and ANTM at the same time. Heaven sent, really.

Who knew we were so alike.... first the titanium in our backs and now American Idol :o)

I love IDOL. I just hope it's better than last season!

I have been contemplating a DVR too. I really should get it since I have a serious TV addiction and can't possibly watch everything I'd like to when it's on.

Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Marci -

The DVR is the greatest thing to come along since sliced bread...which turned out not to be such a big deal :)

I have a Tivo AND a dual tuner DVR from Comcast...yes I can record 3 things simultaneously...and frequently I am recording two things while watching another!

But seriously...they are great for 2 main reasons...

1...no commercials! You can watch an hour show in 40 minutes! That alone is worth it...

2...you can pause the tv for any reason and come back to it when you are ready! Bathroom breaks...diaper emergencies...whatever...

Sister Sue and i LOVE Idol and call each other after each vote off to discuss!

And by the way...I am joining your club of overage people who would have done well on idol! :)
