Peer Pressure at its Best

So, I gave in to all of the encouraging peer pressure, and got myself a DVR. I mean, it will only be another $10 a month on my cable bill, yet the benefits are, dare I say, priceless. Why have I waited so long to join the 21st century?

The show I am most interested in recording? LOST!! For the past few seasons, I have purchased the "Season's Pass" on iTunes so that all of the episodes would automatically download to my computer. The price? Almost $40!! The DVR is much cheaper, and will record so many other shows in the process.

Especially since I am still spending so much time in bed, I am catching up on movies and shows I have always wanted to see. The latest viewings:

  • The Last Kiss (I sure love me some Zach Braff - though I found this a rough, moving, and particularly challenging movie to watch as I approach my thirtieth birthday)
  • The Wedding Banquet (great Ang Lee film about a gay couple, one of whom must get married when his traditional parents pressure him - hilarity ensues)
  • My favorite Scrubs episode, "My Overkill," which features my most favorite musician, Colin Hay!!
  • Classic Pop-Up Video episodes on VH-1 Classic (Metal Mania! Rock and Roll Heaven!)
  • The Celluloid Closet, a fascinating documentary about the depictions of homosexuality throughout the history of film.
Thanks for the good advice, everybody! You never steer me wrong :)

Mazel Tov! Enjoy! Now I need to get me one of those...

How are you feeling these days?

I'm right there with you regarding Zach Braff. Although these days I'm feeling John C. McGinley and Hugh Laurie much more as the actors-who-play-doctors-whom-I'd-like-to-sleep-with ;-)

Thanks for your thoughts regarding my Heath Ledger post. My brother is currently en route back to Australia. Can't imagine what the reaction over there is.

Here's a double dose of fun for Sarene: http://chud.com/nextraimages/scrubby2.jpg.

What is it about Zach Braff? I'd follow him anywhere...

And Hugh Laurie.

And John C McGinley.

But, as far as TV doctors go, my heart truly belongs to GH's Dr Jeff Webber -- I've come so close to buying the complete set of MacGyver like a hundred times, but if I were to buy it, I would get nothing else done. Nothing.

I HATED last kiss. HATED it!

but so glad you got the dvr. now you too can watch marathon sessions of american gladiators (which of course you would never do- there are some perks to being single and 30ish!)

I'm beginning to think we are twins separated at birth... (when is your birthday again?) :o) I have a small obsession with Zach Braff. Since I'm very happily married and ZB doesn't know I exist, I have hope that he will one day marry Natalie Portman and have a bunch of cute little Jewish babies. It's been my dream ever since Garden State. Can't get enough of Scrubs either. Did I mention my small obsession with Zach Braff? I'll never confess whether or not it's a coincidence that my son is named Zach...

Glad you are having some fun while recovering! Congrats on your DVR.

Related to your other post- I'm so sad about Heath Ledger.

Welcome to DVR world!

By the way...did you get the DVR from Comcast? If so...make sure they bring you the dual tuner DVR..meaning you can record two things at once or watch something separate from what you are recording. It costs the same but sometimes they bring you old equipment which does NTO have dual tuners.

Just looking out for you technology wise!

I have an obsession with Zach Urban...he is much cuter than Zach Braff...

Natalie Portman though...yum!

Welcome to the fold! Is it unhealthy that I'm this happy, yet I'm not profiting in the slightest?

Marci, you are so cool. You're bedridden (or, ya know, close to it) and watch all of these mentally stimulating films. I, on my one day on the couch, watch a marathon of America's Next Top Model.

You are definitely the kind of person who should have a DVR. :) (I am probably not)
